Blog of the day for october 25th. Breastfeeding can sometimes be challenging. But one of the most common issues I see would be a shallow latch. A shallow latch can lead to sore nipples. First investigate why infant is not latching properly. Is it due to incorrect position of infant's mouth on the nipple and areola, flat or inverted nipples, or could it be a tight frenelum, (the piece that connects the tongue to bottom of mouth). There are many reason's for a shallow latch but most are relatively easy and quick to fix. |
